Customising BigCommerce e-store

This article forms part of our ‘Customising BigCommerce’ case study series. We continually impress our clients who are looking to digitalise their sales platform by creating customised e-stores using BigCommerce software.

In this case study we look at how we helped Bulk Nutrients build up their e-Commerce website and improve their sales.

Introduction

A decade ago, the Managing Director of Bulk Nutrients, Ben Crowley, was teaching English in Japan. It was there, where nutrition supplements were sparse, that he discovered that sourcing them from the US was far cheaper compared to Australian costs. It was this realisation that led to him starting a nutrition supplement company of his own. Today, Bulk Nutrients has its own factory in Tasmania and a large team who process and pack supplements, many of which are locally sourced in Australia.

Bulk Nutrients &Mine

After Bulk Nutrients had established itself as one of the leading supplement companies in Australia, the challenge became how to continue to scale with lagging e-Store technology. That was when Bulk Nutrients joined the &Mine family of clients for the end-to-end development of a new e-Store. The goals included huge amounts of customisation both visually, functionally and in the back-end reporting, to match the logistic needs of the rapidly growing company.

Salient features

Key features in the Bulk Nutrients eStore, developed by customising BigCommerce, include:

  1. Customised dynamic menu that enables product sorting in various categories like: shop by ingredient; shop by flavour; shop by goals.
  2. Synchronisation of the products and their details between APP and BigCommerce.
  3. Address verification on checkout page and integration of third party system.
  4. Modification of product selection option to select a ‘combination of products’.
  5. Custom single point inventory control.
  6. Customised CMS solutions and functionality.
  7. Customisation of Reporting and Logistics Management.
  8. Customisation of the Shipping Matrix and Dynamic Pricing.
  9. MEGA menus and drop downs.

Customising BigCommerce Benefits 

Bulk Nutrients has not only made the supplement business genuinely Australian but has also changed the business landscape with its highly functional and effective e-Store. It is reaching out to a huge number of potential customers with efficient, targeted and well-thought advertising campaigns and landing solid conversion rates with strategic digital marketing. It is a huge force today with a stable position as a market competitor in the nutritional supplement business.

Project Extensions

&Mine also built the now defunct e-Store for Bioflex, a sister company of Bulk Nutrients. The specific features used in the development of that e-Store and not used for Bulk Nutrients were:

  1. Displaying of product price based on the customer’s group.
  2. Custom functionality that checks and allows to purchase on allowed credit limit.
  3. Customer Group dependence.
