In this article, we will look at how we helped Jetstar, the ‘value-based’ subsidiary of Qantas Airlines that forms a part of the two-tier Qantas policy and carries about 10% of all in-out air passengers in Australia.
Jetstar approached &Mine for this job, as we are the respected go-to enterprise partner of BigCommerce within Australia. Jetstar wanted a cost-effective solution for using the BigCommerce platform for their in-flight wifi to be used on passengers’ own devices and Jetstar iPads. With the BigCommerce e-Store engine in place, we could also allow passengers to purchase goods based on their booking and flight before and after travelling.
Building the in-flight store and introducing products was pretty straight forward. The complexity of the task surrounded passenger ticketing and how to integrate flight and passenger details into the e-Store products presentation layers and checkout. Most crucially, the store needed to present valid flight numbers and authenticate this information in-flight for someone to use the store.
What we needed was the combination of synchronising data from flight schedule systems and the integration of a new module to the BigCommerce API.
The outcome was a fluid and simple in-flight purchasing experience that leveraged the BigCommerce out-of-the-box solution very closely. This avoided having to over-edit the platform, which causes constant changes and requires unwanted maintenance.
Since the launch, there has been no maintenance required and updates have been limited to minor tweaks to the visual layout of the on-board e-Store. Customer feedback from Jetstar passengers has been great and the airline has upped its per-capita commerce with the huge capabilities of BigCommerce and &Mine’s module tweaks.
BigCommerce customisation has worked wonders for &Mine in terms of client satisfaction and we are happy to add Jetstar to our ever-growing list of happy clients.
