Open Letter to LinkedIN – You’re Running Slow, Why is it So?
I know you don’t answer emails or support updates too quickly (and have probably a ton on this subject lately), so I thought I’d write an open letter instead. Your platform is running incredibly slow lately, and around 80% of the screens are rendering poorly or not at all (screenshots attached). I’m guessing this is to do with your new functionality rolling out, but it has been over a month now with no improvement, it may have actually gotten worse. It may be due to a slow or lagging internet connection my end, but then Facebook and others seemingly as-complicated platforms loading completely fine?
I love the platform and use it daily – luckily there is no alternative or i’m sure it would be even more alarming for you. Coming from a software engineering background and building lots of CRM / web platforms for our clients, I know even on for scale it can be a nightmare going from a stable platform and then based on new users or new features, the platform starts to become shaky. We all look with great awe what Facbook is able to do in this regard, with multiple new versions and hundreds of millions of new users over the years and little to no noticeable downtime.
I know it is more complicated than this as each platform has its specific challenges, but have my fingers crossed for you and the sanity of some of your users, that everything comes back to stability in a reasonable timeframe. Please though, keep users in the loop before rolling out new features or when the service is under heavy load or there is trouble on our end with the connection. Reddit and Twitter seemed to do just fine with this strategy, once again noting they aren’t paid services, so perhaps prioritise Premium users to more stable versions when thinking about future releases ?
